The first-ever SCULC was held on April 10, 2010 at UCLA in Royce Hall. In attendence were students from colleges as close as USC and as far as University of Pennsylvania. It far exceeded our original expectations and concluded a highly successful year of activities hosted by Bruin Linguists.
The keynote speakers were Prof. Robert Daland of UCLA, who spoke on "Phonotactics in Word Recognition", and Dr. Shri Narayanan of USC, who gave a talk entitled "Seeing Speech: Connecting speech science and speech technologies".
There were nine student presenters selected to be part of SCULC, representing five different universities among three states.
