Our Speaker: Dr. Kie Zuraw
The Topic: “Why I like being a phonologist, and how to become one”
Kie is a member of the UCLA faculty, and her research interests include lexicalization, exceptionality in phonology, variable, gradient, or stochastic constraint rankings, loanword phonology, and language change. She also studies Austronesian languages such as Samoan, Tagalog, Palauan, Malagasy, and Javanese. She recieved her BA in 1994 from McGill Universtiy, and her PhD in 2000 from UCLA. Kie teaches ling 103, Intro to phonetics; 120A, Phonology I; and 165A, Phonology II, as well as several graduate courses.
